ThermalsHike & fly

Bocca de Rogna, above San Bernardino in Switzerland, is a hike-and-fly launch at about 2,382 m that works well on wind from east through south-east to south, and it's a genuinely good spot for a morning hike-and-fly session. The recommended route up follows a panoramic line through Pass di Passit and Pass de la Cruseta (2,455 m) before heading south to launch; an alternative goes via Alp d'Ocola and Alp d'Arbeola. In winter, the launch can also be reached on skis in the right conditions — always check the avalanche bulletin first if you're planning that approach. Because the launch sits at real altitude close to the main alpine ridge, checking the foehn forecast carefully before flying matters more here than at most sites, and flying in a north wind is genuinely dangerous and has been described as potentially deadly — that's not a direction to fly in. Landing is at Prou de San Bernardin, which suits a weak south wind.
