Where it is

ThermalsSoaringHike & fly

Parusciana sits above the Misox valley in the Italian-speaking part of Graubünden, Switzerland, at around 1,210 m, with a grassy, windsock-marked takeoff and a reputation as a strong spring cross-country site as well as a pleasant evening soaring spot. Best winds come from the southeast through west. Access is by gondola followed by a roughly 20-minute walk, with a ticket priced at about 15 Swiss francs. Landing is at Lumino, down in the valley. Two things to keep in mind locally: a heliport at San Vittore holds a 2.5 km radius zone reaching up to about 870 m, and the Lumino landing sits right at its edge, so approach planning matters. The Misox valley wind is also known to build to very strong levels in summer, which can turn a calm-looking morning into a rough afternoon glide. With good thermals in spring and a relaxed evening soaring option later in the season, it rewards checking conditions carefully before committing.

Local rules & hazards

A heliport at San Vittore has a roughly 2.5 km zone reaching up to about 870 m, and the Lumino landing sits right at its edge — plan the approach with that in mind. The Misox valley wind can turn very strong in summer, especially by afternoon. A landing field near Grono is also used as a shooting range at times, so use the recognised Lumino landing unless local conditions are confirmed safe.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Parusciana, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Parusciana with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
