Where it is
Steintal is a southeast-facing mountain launch at around 2,100 metres in the Bernese Oberland, Switzerland. The approach follows a similar route to the nearby Allmenalp launch, but continues higher: from that access point, it's an additional hike up to reach Steintal itself, gaining roughly 300 extra metres of altitude along the way. That makes it a launch for pilots willing to put in genuine hiking effort in exchange for the higher vantage point. The southeast orientation means the window for a good day here is narrower than at multi-direction sites, so it pays to be selective about which forecast is worth the climb. As with mountain launches elsewhere in Switzerland, the airspace picture is more layered than it first appears, so checking current restrictions before heading up is time well spent rather than an afterthought. Steintal suits pilots already familiar with the Allmenalp area who want to push a bit higher and are comfortable navigating Swiss airspace rules on their own.

Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Steintal, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Steintal with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
