Where it is
Wispile Mitte is an alternative take-off for the Wispile flying area above Gstaad, Switzerland, at 1,640 m, good for thermals, soaring and cross-country flying, and working on north, north-east, west or north-west winds. Rather than riding the gondola all the way to the top launch, you get off at the middle station and walk about 200 m up and to the right to reach this launch instead — a useful lower option when the top isn't working, or simply a shorter carry. The gondola runs from Gstaad, so getting to either take-off is straightforward once you're in town. With four workable wind directions and real soaring and cross-country potential, it's one of the more versatile launches in the Gstaad area.

Getting there & local rules
Gondola from Gstaad to the middle station, then a short walk to the launch.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Wispile Mitte, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Wispile Mitte with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
