Where it is
Algarrobo Mirasol is a low coastal soaring site on Chile's central coast, about 115 km (roughly a 2 h 10 drive) west of Santiago. The launch sits on a bluff right above the beach at just 46 m, and the site works on a west wind blowing straight in off the Pacific — a simple ridge-soaring line along the dune above the sand. Pilots can land back at launch or drop straight onto the beach; some fly a little further south and land near the beachfront bar-restaurant to finish the session with a drink. The takeoff and landing sit within a quiet residential stretch of the Algarrobo coastline, so continued access depends on pilots respecting the neighbours' privacy. It's best treated as a scenic Pacific ridge-soaring stop rather than a cross-country launch, and it's worth confirming current conditions locally since detailed reports are scarce.
Launch & conditions
The launch is a low coastal bluff facing west, right above the beach — a straightforward soaring setup with the sea directly in front.
Getting there & local rules
Reach the site via the south-eastern corner of the open ground where the takeoff sits, using Camino Algarrobo Mirasol — or via Almirante Lynch at the field's north-western corner. It's about 115 km (2 h 10) from Santiago.
Local rules & hazards
Fly with respect for the beachfront neighbours' privacy — the launch overlooks private decks and pools in a residential area. If the wind drops while flying north along the beach, landing in the water is a real hazard, so stay close enough to reach a safe beach landing.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Algarrobo Mirasol, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Algarrobo Mirasol with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
