Ruitoque's Vuelo Libre launch is one of two runs off a long, windward mesa above Bucaramanga, Colombia, at around 1,222 m — a site built to work across the whole day and across skill levels. Early morning and late afternoon bring gentle, easy sled rides suited to novice pilots; mid-morning shifts into proper thermic and cross-country flying; and the afternoon turns into dynamic ridge soaring between here and the neighboring Las Águilas launch, glassing off into a smooth evening as the sun sets. Conditions are notably consistent, which is why it doubles as a training site for kiting and top-landing practice. One restriction matters more than anything else here: the flight area is limited both laterally and in altitude — a hard ceiling of 5,500 ft above sea level — because of the nearby Bucaramanga (BGA) airport, so check the current limits with local pilots before you fly. Landing is at a large LZ shared with the nearby Las Águilas site; expect some turbulence on the way in, though several bailout landing areas exist as backups, and top-landing is also an option. The city itself is close by for anything you need afterward.
