Where it is
Roso is one of the launches inside Colombia's Chicamocha Canyon, a dramatic Andean gorge in Santander known as one of South America's best thermal and soaring venues, with a takeoff at about 1,533 meters facing west to northwest. The launch itself is large with several windsocks to help read the wind before committing. From Bucaramanga, plan on 1.5 hours in light traffic, but give yourself 2 hours or more to be safe, since arriving late costs you flying time. Timing matters here more than at most sites: pilots are expected on launch by 10:00, the reliable flying window runs roughly 10:00 to 13:00, and wind typically builds beyond safe limits after that. The flyable airspace is also deliberately limited, both sideways and in altitude, so this isn't a site for wandering XC lines; stay inside the bounds locals fly within. Get there early, fly your window, and treat the canyon's afternoon wind buildup as the hard stop it is.
Launch & conditions
Large takeoff with several windsocks, at about 1,533 m facing W/NW. Be on launch by 10:00 — the flying window is roughly 10:00–13:00 before the wind builds.
Getting there & local rules
From Bucaramanga, allow 1.5 hours in good traffic but plan for 2 hours or more to arrive with time to spare.
Local rules & hazards
The flyable area here is intentionally limited, both sideways and in altitude — stay inside it rather than pushing the boundary. Wind builds through the day, and landing inside the canyon after 13:00 is not safe.
Check conditions before you fly
