Where it is
Cundur is a thermal, soaring and cross-country site in southern Colombia, launching at about 2,262 m in north or east wind, set in landscape widely described as strikingly beautiful. Takeoff is reached by a road accessible to all types of cars, so no 4x4 is needed to get there. There's an airport to the west of the site, and flying is banned in the associated air corridor, so pilots need to stay clear of that airspace. Fog and rain are reported here, which can move in and affect visibility or flyability, so it's worth checking conditions carefully rather than assuming a clear forecast will hold. Landing is easy: a large roadside area gives plenty of room to come down. Between the airspace restriction to respect and the scenic thermal flying on offer, Cundur is a worthwhile stop with the right weather and careful route planning.

Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Cundur, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Cundur with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
