Where it is
El Brillante is a mountain-ridge paragliding launch at the northern end of Colombia's Valle del Cauca, about one hour's drive north of Pereira, sitting at roughly 1,715 meters and facing the south to southeast quadrant. It's a ridge site rather than a flatland one, so soaring the ridge line is the natural way to spend time in the air here, with the wind direction spread across south, southeast and southwest giving it a reasonable working range on any given day. The site sits within easy reach of Pereira, which makes it a realistic add-on for pilots already flying Colombia's well-known coffee-region sites rather than a standalone destination trip. As with most ridge launches in this part of the Andes, expect the flying window to depend heavily on the day's specific wind direction lining up with the south-facing terrain — check current conditions before making the drive, since a launch built for southerly wind won't work on a day the wind refuses to cooperate.
