Where it is

Bucherhang is an east-facing slope in Germany, flying in northeast or east wind at around 900 m. The site is explicitly suited to training and ground-handling as well as regular flying, making it a versatile spot for pilots at different stages rather than a narrow specialist site. In northeast wind with thermals present, pilots can climb out well here rather than just sledding down, so it offers real flying beyond the basics once conditions cooperate. There's a practical rule to know before you go: a takeoff and landing fee must be paid at the local farm (Bucherbauer) before launching, so budget a small cash payment into your visit. The landing is at Bucherhang Landeplatz. Bucherhang is a good pick if you want a single spot that covers ground-handling practice, an easy first flight, and a genuine thermal climb on a good day, without needing to travel between separate sites for each.

Getting there & local rules

A takeoff and landing fee is payable at the local farm (Bucherbauer) before flying.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Bucherhang, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Bucherhang with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
