Where it is

Ödberg is the training slope used by the Gleitschirmschule Tegernsee, at about 960 m facing north to northwest — flying here only happens by arrangement with the school, it isn't open to unaffiliated pilots. Tree stands and hedges on several parcels around the site are protected landscape features under Bavarian nature-conservation law, so felling, trimming or cutting flight channels through them is not permitted. A summer toboggan run and a drag lift also operate on the hill: pilots need to keep at least 50 m clear of both whenever they're running, and flying has to be coordinated with the toboggan run's public operating hours so nobody on the run is put at risk — the wing gets laid out below the toboggan track, not across it. For safety, training flights stop altogether once wind passes 15 km/h.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Ödberg, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Ödberg with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
