Where it is
Erpfenzell is a winch-tow flatland site in Bavaria, Germany, at about 620 m, notable for working across a wide spread of wind directions — east, southeast, west and northwest — which gives it more usable days than a typical single-direction site. The ground rules here are set to protect what's around the field: vehicles must park in one central area at the southeastern edge of the property near the farmstead, never scattered out on the site itself. Forest areas immediately bordering the site to the north and northeast are registered as ecologically valuable habitat in the regional species and biotope protection program for the Cham district, and flying directly over them is not permitted. A nearby road also carries a firm clearance rule: pilots must keep a minimum distance of 50 m from it, both horizontally and vertically, at all times.

Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Erpfenzell, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Erpfenzell with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
