Where it is
Lainderer Feld is a winch-tow flatland site at 655 m in Germany with an unusually wide range of workable wind directions — all eight compass points are listed as flyable here, which is rare. That flexibility comes with real ground constraints: a mandatory 100 m safety distance from the A8 motorway to the southwest and a 50 m distance from the country road to the southeast, both non-negotiable, and every pilot has to be briefed on those distances before flying starts. The rules get stricter with the wind: in northerly winds, the buffer to the A8 has to be increased beyond the standard 100 m, and if the wind comes from the northeast at more than 10 km/h, flying stops entirely for that session. Between the wide direction spread and the specific, wind-dependent safety margins near a live motorway, this is a site where the ground rules genuinely change what's flyable on a given day, not just the wind speed.
Local rules & hazards
Keep at least 100 m from the A8 motorway (southwest) and 50 m from the country road (southeast) — mandatory, and every pilot is briefed on this before flying. In northerly wind, the A8 buffer must be increased; in northeast wind over 10 km/h, flying stops entirely.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Lainderer Feld, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Lainderer Feld with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
