Where it is
Michelsberg / Burghausen is a soaring site in Germany at 380 m, working best in strong south-west and west wind — the ridge shape makes it only partly suited for entering thermals from there. It's restricted to experienced pilots: flying here requires the unrestricted paragliding license and confident reverse-launch skills in a tight space, since the launch is a narrow corridor with no vehicle access — park at the landing field or in the village and walk up via the worn path along the ridge edge. Launches only go ahead with enough headwind for a safe start, above roughly 10 km/h, and after launching pilots enter the lift band to the right. A historic chapel ruin sits nearby. The landing meadow is very close to a public road, so keeping proper clearance on approach matters more here than at a typical site, and the road itself must be overflown with at least 50 m of safety margin.
Local rules & hazards
Only experienced pilots holding the unrestricted paragliding license, confident with a safe reverse-launch in a small space, should fly here. Launches need enough headwind for a safe start (above roughly 10 km/h), the local road must be overflown with at least 50 m clearance, and the landing meadow sits very close to that same road — keep at least 50 m distance there too.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Michelsberg / Burghausen, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Michelsberg / Burghausen with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
