Where it is

winchFlatland XC

Riedwiesen is a winch-tow flatland site at 285 m in Germany, flown on east and west winds, and it comes with a genuine precision requirement built into the ground rules: the tow corridor is tight, boxed in by trees to the north and forest to the south, so towing is only allowed in exact headwind, within about 10 degrees — there's very little margin for a crosswind component here. Pilots must also keep at least 50 m of clearance, both to the side and vertically, from the two roads bordering the field. One more operational rule: ridge-soaring and winch-towing aren't permitted at the same time, so the site runs one mode of flying at a time rather than mixing traffic. A briefing is required before you fly. Between the narrow tow corridor, the strict wind-angle tolerance and the road clearances, this is a site where precision matters more than at a wide-open field.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Riedwiesen, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Riedwiesen with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
