Where it is
Schleppwiese Vierruthenberg is a winch-launch flatland site in Brandenburg, north of Berlin, set up for east or west wind. At just 43 m above sea level it's about as flat as paragliding gets in Germany — there's no hill or ridge here, so every flight starts on a tow line rather than a foot-launch, making it a practical spot for training laps and short local flights rather than cross-country days. The area sits close to several protected bird habitats — Linumer Teiche, Kremmener Luch and Bützsee — which is prime territory for migratory and breeding birds. Because of that, pilots need to keep a wide berth from parked obstacles like straw bales along the tow line, and the launch and winch crew must always stay in visual contact with each other for the tow to run safely. As with any winch field, flying here means working with an operator and a team, not going up solo.
Launch & conditions
Winch (tow) launch on flat, open ground at just 43 m elevation, suited to east or west wind; there is no natural takeoff hill, so every flight depends on the tow line and winch crew.
Getting there & local rules
Located in Brandenburg near the Linumer Teiche / Kremmener Luch wetlands, north of Berlin; keep well clear of parked obstacles such as straw bales along the tow strip.
Local rules & hazards
Stay at least 50 m from the tree line and the eastern boundary path, and the same distance from any obstacles parked along the tow strip. Launch and winch must keep constant visual contact throughout the tow. Between September and November and again February to April, avoid overflying the protected bird areas nearby (Linumer Teiche, Kremmener Luch, Bützsee) north of the Damkrug–Wustrau road.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Schleppwiese Vierruthenberg, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Schleppwiese Vierruthenberg with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
