Where it is
Tegelberg is one of Bavaria's classic paragliding and hang gliding launches, taking off from beside the Tegelbergbahn cable car's upper station at 1,707 m with a flight path over Neuschwanstein Castle below. The site has its own flight regulations that every pilot must follow. Launch preparation — sorting lines, putting on the harness — has to happen outside the launch area itself; pilots then walk to the actual launch point with the wing already gathered up. Every pilot needs a current briefing card for the site, and at the valley station you'll be asked to show your pilot licence and proof of insurance before the cable car will carry you and your gear. Keep a generous safety margin from the cable car structure at all times. Landing is at a separate zone from hang gliders and rigid wings, following the site's landing pattern, and the road below must be cleared with at least 10 m of height. Tandem flights are only run by operators approved by the cable car company — private tandem flying isn't allowed here.
Launch & conditions
Launch at 1,707 m beside the Tegelbergbahn cable car's upper station, for northeast to northwest winds. Sort your lines and put your harness on outside the launch area, then walk in with the wing gathered up; a current site briefing card is required.
Getting there & local rules
You'll need to show your pilot licence and proof of insurance at the valley station before the cable car will take you up — no ticket, no transport. Keep well clear of the cable car structure once at the top.
Local rules & hazards
Landing is split into separate zones for paragliders and hang gliders/rigid wings — fly the site's landing pattern, especially when it's busy, and clear the road below with at least 10 m of height. Tandem flights here are only operated by providers approved by the cable car company; private tandem flying is not permitted.
