Where it is
Tegelberg is one of Germany's classic flying sites, with a takeoff at Rohrkopfsattel around 1,308 m that sends pilots out over the view toward Neuschwanstein castle below. The launch sits right on a ski slope, so flying here only happens outside ski operating hours — the mountain does double duty depending on the season. Getting to the top means taking the mountain cable car, and pilots need to show their pilot's license and proof of insurance to be allowed on board; each pilot also needs a current briefing card before flying. Once you're set up, walk to the takeoff with your wing already packed rather than laying out gear in the start area itself. On the way down, keep clear distance from the cable car line, cross the road below at a safe height, and fly a proper approach into the shared landing pattern — hang gliders, rigid wings and paragliders all land close together here.
Launch & conditions
Takeoff sits on a ski slope at about 1,308 m facing southwest to west — only flown outside ski operating hours, and gear should be packed and ready before you walk into the start area itself.
Getting there & local rules
Reaching the launch means riding the mountain cable car up; you'll need to show your pilot's license and insurance proof to be let on board, and each pilot needs a current briefing card before flying here.
Local rules & hazards
Keep well clear of the cable car line on the way down, and cross the road below at a minimum of 10 m height. Paraglider and hang glider landings use separate areas within a shared landing pattern — fly it properly rather than cutting in, especially when traffic is heavy. Only approved operators may run tandem flights here; private tandem flying is not allowed.
