Where it is

Vogelsang Ost sits at 1,558 m above Bayrischzell in the Bavarian Alps, with launches facing west and northeast — the west-facing option is particularly good on summer evenings. Getting up is seasonal: in summer you drive as far as the Walleralm via the Sudelfeld pass and pay a launch fee there before walking the rest, while in winter a modern eight-seat chairlift (four-seat during active skiing) carries pilots and skis up together. Before a first flight, every pilot needs a hazard briefing covering the flight route, emergency landing options, the nearby reservoir and the lee zone west of the cable car — because launching is only allowed once a safe overflight of that cable car is assured. The site sits close to the Geitau gliderfield, so respecting its traffic pattern matters on every flight, and when model-aircraft flying is happening at the same time, pilots need to coordinate directly with them. Landing is on a large, windsock-marked meadow in Bayrischzell.

Launch & conditions

Launches face west and northeast; the west launch is especially good on summer evenings. Launching is only allowed once safe overflight of the cable car is assured, and pilots must respect the neighbouring Geitau gliderfield's traffic pattern.

Getting there & local rules

Summer: drive via the Sudelfeld pass to the Walleralm (a launch fee applies there), then walk the rest of the way. Winter: an eight-seat chairlift (four-seat while skiing is active) carries pilots up.

Local rules & hazards

Every pilot needs a hazard briefing before their first flight, covering the flight route, emergency landing areas, the nearby reservoir and the lee zone west of the cable car. When model-aircraft flying is happening at the same time, coordinate flight operations directly with them.
