Where it is

Voithenberg is a German paragliding site typical of the Bavarian Forest, at about 850 m and facing east-southeast. The launch itself is a narrow gap cut through the trees, and once airborne there's a lot of forest to fly over before open ground appears — not a site to launch into cold. The east-southeast orientation does give a real chance to work into thermals rather than just sinking out over the trees, which is the payoff for the tighter launch. A briefing from a club member is mandatory before flying here for the first time, and given the narrow launch and heavily forested terrain, that's a rule worth taking seriously rather than skipping. Landing is at the dedicated Voithenberg Landeplatz.

Local rules & hazards

Launching here is in a narrow forest gap, with a lot of forest to fly over afterward — a briefing from a club member is mandatory before your first flight.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Voithenberg, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Voithenberg with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
