Weiherkopf / Hörnerbahn Startplatz Mittelstation

Weiherkopf, served by the Hörnerbahn cable car in the Allgäu, is a well-established training site — countless students have earned their wings here, on slopes offering up to 500 m of height difference in east wind. It's run jointly by local flight schools, so expect company from student groups on active days. The one rule every pilot needs to know before flying here: the valley-station landing field is completely closed in winter, because the ski resort fills it with snow-making lances and skiers, and using it anyway creates real obstacle hazards. Through the snow season, land exclusively at the alternative field by the golf course instead — there's no ambiguity here, the cable car operator enforces it. Outside winter, the Talstation landing is the normal option, right where the cable car brings you back down.
