Løkken on the west coast of Jutland is one of Europe's best long-distance soaring beaches — miles of dune ridge that runs north from the town. Launch is from the top of the dunes about 4 km north of Løkken; you can launch in many places along the beach, but the dunes are a protected wildlife zone, so try not to damage the beach grass.
Launch & conditions
Launch from the top of the dunes about 4 km north of Løkken. Many other spots up the beach also work — respect the protected dune grass.
Getting there & local rules
Take the E45 up to Aalborg, then E39. Exit at the sign for Løkken. In Løkken, go to the beach on the north side of town — you can drive on the beach but only from the northern access. A few kilometres north you'll see the dunes and (weather permitting) gliders flying. Landings: top-land anywhere along the ~20 km flyable stretch if you can, or simply land on the beach.
Local rules & hazards
ROTOR BEHIND THE DUNES CAN KILL YOU — never fly behind the dunes. Ask locals for basic terrain advice even if you're an experienced mountain pilot. White caps on the waves with no pilots flying = wind too strong, go into town for a beer. Do NOT launch in front of the lonely beach farm just north of town — the family is friendly but doesn't want a permanent PG camp on their doorstep. Launch north of the farm and fly northward from there.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Løkken, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Løkken with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.

Flyable days by month
A day counts as flyable when the surface wind held in your range, from a direction the site flies, with no rain, for at least 2 hours in a row (08:00–20:00) — from hourly 10 m wind over the last 12 months. A seasonal wind guide only: it can't judge gusts, thermals or turbulence, and never replaces the live forecast, airspace checks and your own judgement.
