Where it is
Acebedo is a thermal and cross-country site in a regional park in the mountains of León, Spain, launched from a north-facing (slightly northeast) slope right below the TV repeater above the village of Acebedo. Getting onto the access track means asking permission first: it's gated with a padlock, held by the local council and a handful of village residents, so this isn't a spontaneous fly-by site — plan the access ahead of time. Because the whole area sits inside a regional park, flying without that authorization risks a run-in with park rangers or environmental police, so get permission sorted before you go up. The village is reachable via the Tarna pass from the Asturias side, or via Riaño from the León side (also reachable via Boñar through Cofiñal and Las Señales). The official landing is beside the village church, though it's worth checking beforehand whether the grass fields nearby have already been cut — field owners are happy to let pilots land on grazing land, just not on fields still growing a crop.
Launch & conditions
Launch faces north, with a slight northeast lean, right below the TV repeater above the village.
Getting there & local rules
Reachable via the Tarna pass from Asturias or via Riaño from León (also via Boñar through Cofiñal and Las Señales). The access track itself is gated — ask the local village council for permission before heading up.
Local rules & hazards
The site sits inside a regional park, so flying without the village's authorization risks a stop from park rangers or environmental police — get permission sorted before you go up.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Acebedo, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Acebedo with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
