ThermalsCross-country

Gamonal – Angliru is a thermal and cross-country launch at around 1,442 m in Asturias, Spain, on the slopes near the famous Angliru climb, with an easterly wind. The take-off is elevated and quick — pilots describe being airborne within just a few steps of the ramp, so little run-up room is needed to get flying. Reaching it means driving the N-630 between Oviedo and Mieres to the Santa Eulalia service area, then continuing on toward Angliru itself. Landing options sit along the same corridor: back near the N-630 exit at Santa Eulalia, continuing a few kilometres further on. It's a straightforward, easy-access Asturian site — good for pilots who want an efficient east-facing thermal launch without a long approach hike, set in the dramatic green mountain scenery the region is known for.
