Where it is
La Graná, above Martos in Jaén province, Spain, launches from around 1,148 m at the top of the mountain of the same name, with access easy enough for any car to manage. Wind blows frequently from the northwest and west here, which sets up good cross-country runs toward the town of Pegalajar. Getting to takeoff means driving through Martos on the JA-3300 toward Los Villares, then turning left after about 1 km onto the Camino de la Sierra and following it roughly 4 km to the top. Thermals build strong in summer, and evening flights around sunset are considered some of the best here. Top-landing back at launch works well if conditions allow, and there are no specific flight restrictions on the mountain. If you land in the valley instead, the designated field — clear of olive trees, beside a road — is reached by driving through Martos toward Jamilena, turning left after about 2 km onto a descending side road, and continuing just 500 m further.
