Where it is
Oroel launches from 1,742 m in Aragón, Spain, reached only on foot — pilots leave the car at the Parador and then hike about two and a half hours up to the cross at the summit, so this is a proper hike-and-fly site rather than a drive-up launch. Wind from the east through southeast, south and southwest all work here, supporting thermic, soaring and hike-and-fly flying across a genuinely wide range of directions. Getting to the starting point is straightforward by car: follow the A-1205 toward Oroel, then take the left-hand turn toward the parador on the mountain's north face, from where the walk begins. Neither the launch nor the landing has an official windsock — there are several fields to choose from for landing, but none of them marked or official, so pilots need to read the wind themselves rather than relying on a marker at either end of the flight.
Launch & conditions
Reached by a roughly two-and-a-half-hour walk up from the Parador to the cross at the summit; no windsock at the top.
Getting there & local rules
Follow the A-1205 toward Oroel, then take the left-hand turn toward the parador on the mountain's north face — the hike starts from there.
Local rules & hazards
There's no windsock at launch, and none of the landing fields nearby are official or marked with a windsock either — read the wind carefully before committing on both ends.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Oroel, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Oroel with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
