Where it is
Sant Pere de Rodes flies from the ridge above the ancient monastery of the same name, inside the Cap de Creus Natural Park on Catalonia's Costa Brava — respect the natural setting. There are three main takeoffs: Palau Saverdera (SW), Port de la Selva (NE) with two options, and the Castell de Sant Salvador (ENE). A weather buoy transmits wind updates every 15 minutes on 143.9875 MHz. Above all, this is Tramontana country — do NOT fly in a strong north wind.
Launch & conditions
Three takeoffs. Palau Saverdera (SW): launch below the windsock. Port de la Selva (NE): one option below the windsock (short — for experienced pilots), the other just below the wall. Castell de Sant Salvador (ENE): third takeoff. Wind buoy on 143.9875 MHz, every 15 minutes.
Getting there & local rules
A-7 motorway, exit Figueres, take the Llançà road. Right at the Roses turn-off. At Vilajuïga, left and climb up to the monastery car park. Walk to the monastery gate and follow the path up to the Castell de Sant Salvador — the windsock appears halfway up; the other takeoff is off the wall just below the castle. To reach the LZ: from Vilajuïga head straight up towards Roses via Palau Saverdera — the Cooperativa landing is on the right of the road. For Port de la Selva, descend from Sant Pere de Rodes directly (or reach it from Llançà). Landings: Palau Saverdera Cooperativa is medium difficulty — watch for the road and power lines through it (predominant SE sea breeze); Port de la Selva beach, busy in summer, predominant NE sea breeze; alternative landing next to the tennis courts on the Selva de Mar road and on the ridge descending to the village.
Local rules & hazards
Do NOT fly in strong Tramontana (the local north wind). The site is inside the Cap de Creus Natural Park — respect the environment.
