Frencq is a small, unremarkable flatland site in northern France, worth a look if you're already in the area and the wind is out of the northeast, but not a destination site in its own right. Space is tight — the flying area suits no more than four wings at a time — and the takeoff field is grass reached by a marked track, with a fence to cross carefully on the way in. The single biggest hazard here is proximity: a motorway runs just 300 metres downwind of the site, so anything beyond a light breeze calls for real caution on launch, since drifting or a bad decision leaves very little margin before the road. Landing is straightforward once crops are harvested in early September, and there's enough grass at the base of the slope to land without crossing an extra fence, but earlier in the season pilots need to avoid coming down in growing crops. Treat this as a convenient, low-key site for a NE-wind day rather than one to plan a trip around.

Launch & conditions

Small flying area suited to no more than four wings at a time, on a grass field reached by a marked track; take care not to damage fencing when crossing to reach it.

Getting there & local rules

Reached by a signed track off local roads near Frencq, passing under the motorway; a marked field entrance leads to the takeoff area.

Local rules & hazards

A motorway runs only 300 metres downwind of the site, so fly with real caution once the wind is more than light — there's little room for drift or error before reaching the road. Before crops are harvested in early September, avoid landing on growing fields; afterwards, landing is open and there's enough grass at the base of the slope to avoid extra fences.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Frencq, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Frencq with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
