Where it is
Sticks Bowl is a members-only flying site run by Green Dragons Airsports, with a large, flat, open takeoff that's well suited to soaring and accuracy practice. Access works through the clubhouse: check in with staff there before flying, and expect a day fee (around £5) with proof of payment kept on hand in case a club member asks. The site sits close to controlled airspace near Biggin Hill, about 1 km behind takeoff, so pilots need to stay under a hard ceiling of 2,500 ft (762 m AMSL). Wind direction matters more than usual here — if it comes in too far off to the left of the ideal line, the hill throws rotor that makes the site genuinely unsafe, so that's not a day to fly. Landing is flexible: bottom, top or slope landings are all workable, with the main hazards being rabbit holes scattered around and an obvious fence line running left to right just in front of takeoff, both worth clocking before you commit to a landing spot.
Launch & conditions
Takeoff is a large, flat, open area — set up off to one side and only move onto the takeoff spot itself once you're ready to fly. The site is well suited to soaring and accuracy practice.
Getting there & local rules
This is a members-only site: check in at the Green Dragons Airsports clubhouse and a staff member will direct you to the hill. A day fee (around £5) applies, with proof of payment expected if a club member asks.
Local rules & hazards
Controlled airspace near Biggin Hill sits about 1 km behind takeoff, capping flights at 2,500 ft (762 m AMSL). If the wind comes in too far off to the left of the ideal direction, the hill produces rotor that makes the site unsafe — that's a day to sit out. Watch for rabbit holes in the landing area and the fence line running left to right just in front of takeoff.
