Where it is
Mushera (N) is a quiet north-facing hill near Millstreet in County Cork, overlooked by pilots in favor of other northerly sites nearby, though it makes for a good change of scenery. Two house thermals work reliably here: one rising off a farm shed below launch, the other from a gulley about 200 m to the left. Reaching launch is an easy 10-minute walk up a forestry road opposite the car park, with room to launch anywhere once the road ends; in stronger winds, a small ridge knob 20 m below the road offers another option, though conditions at the top run genuinely strong on those days, so stay well out in front after launching. There's no dedicated landing field — pilots typically come down east of the car park or anywhere further down the valley, and the ground right behind the car park stays safe and obstruction-free even in high wind. The one firm boundary: don't push southeast over the back of the hill, since that airspace is restricted.
Launch & conditions
A short 10-minute walk up the forestry road opposite the car park; launch anywhere once the road ends. In stronger winds, a small ridge knob 20 m below the road is an alternative — expect genuinely strong wind at the top on those days.
Getting there & local rules
From Millstreet Town, take the road southeast toward Millstreet Country Park or Rylane to the top of the pass, known locally as 'The Top of Togher'. Park there and walk up.
Local rules & hazards
Don't fly southeast over the back of the hill — that airspace is restricted. There's no dedicated landing field; pilots typically land east of the car park or anywhere down the valley, and the ground behind the car park stays clear of obstructions even in high wind.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Mushera (N), read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Mushera (N) with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
