Where it is
Montefalcone nel Sannio – North is the main takeoff used by the local Aeroclub 'I Picchi' in Italy's Molise region, and it earns its reputation as an easy, welcoming site: the steep, grassy slope allows a clean launch for both solo and tandem flights, and it's used for school training as well as everyday leisure flying. Local pilots often thermal directly over Montefalcone from here. The main takeoff faces north-northeast, but the site adapts well to shifting wind — a short 30-meter walk reaches an alternate east-facing takeoff when the wind swings that way, and there's a separate south-facing option directly behind the main ramp for southern winds. Getting there means driving up to Montefalcone nel Sannio and following signs toward the mountaintop, along what locals call the 'strada del bosco'. There's one official landing field used by the aeroclub, plus a second emergency-only field visible just below and to the left of takeoff.
Launch & conditions
The main takeoff faces north-northeast on a steep, grassy slope that allows a clean launch for both solo and tandem pilots. When wind shifts to the east, a 30-meter walk reaches an alternate east-facing takeoff; for southern wind, there's a separate south-facing ramp directly behind. Western wind means moving over to the Montefalcone nel Sannio – South takeoff instead.
Getting there & local rules
Drive up to Montefalcone nel Sannio and follow the signs toward the top of the mountain, along the road locals call the 'strada del bosco'.
Local rules & hazards
This is considered an easy site with no special flight restrictions, though pilots should watch for gusty wind, which can trigger a dangerous pendulum ('chandelier') swing under the wing.
