Where it is
Palamonda–Colverde, above San Martino di Castrozza in the Dolomites of Trentino, launches from 2,199 m and favours south, southwest and west wind for both thermal and cross-country flying — a proper high-mountain site reached on foot as much as by vehicle. There are two main road approaches: from Trento, the A22 exit at Egna-Ora leads through the Val di Fiemme via Cavalese, Moena and Predazzo, over Passo Rolle toward San Martino; from the Veneto side, the route runs from Bassano toward Trento, branching off at the sign for Fiera di Primiero and continuing in. The main landing is a large flat area northwest of the town, though a nearby helicopter pad means pilots stay alert for air traffic there. During the day a southeast valley breeze is typical, tending to swing north once the sun sets in the evening — worth watching if you're flying late. Powered paragliding is not permitted at this site.
Getting there & local rules
From Trento: A22, exit Egna-Ora, then through the Val di Fiemme via Cavalese, Moena and Predazzo, over Passo Rolle to San Martino di Castrozza. From the Veneto side: from Bassano toward Trento, turning off at the sign for Fiera di Primiero.
Local rules & hazards
Powered paragliding is not allowed at this site. Because a helicopter landing area sits close to the main landing zone northwest of town, use the grass area southeast of San Martino di Castrozza instead if you hear or see a helicopter — expect the same shift from a southeast valley breeze by day to a northerly wind after sunset there too.
