Prato Fiorito is explicitly not a beginner's site: the source is direct about it, warning of strong thermal activity and landing options that are anything but straightforward. Takeoff is a genuinely large, open area at the summit of Mt. Prato Fiorito, which gives plenty of room to work with on launch, but that space doesn't carry through to the rest of the flight — cross-country pilots will find few, if any, easy landing areas along the way, and even the marked emergency landing field, a private area near the cemetery, isn't described as an easy one. Top-landing back at launch is the more forgiving option and is noted as straightforward, which makes it the sensible default for anyone flying here without a scouted-out route to a safe field further out. Flyable directions span south-east through south and south-west to west, so there's a reasonable wind window, but the strong thermal activity the source flags means the flying itself demands active, confident handling rather than a relaxed float.
