Rueglio

Rueglio flies from Monte Bossola, north of the village of Rueglio in Piedmont's Canavese region — a mountain over 1,400 m offering several takeoff options along the gravel road up top, with a large final takeoff field at the end of the road. Access via car is limited by a road barrier that only local forest rangers can unlock, but the first takeoffs are still reachable on foot from the barrier in about 20 minutes; the end of the road takes 50 minutes. This is a real mountain site with an alpine feel and good XC links towards the nearby sites of Cavallaria and S. Elisabetta.

Getting there & local rules

Rueglio is reachable from the SS565 between Ivrea and Rivarolo, or via Lessolo (which is next to the Cavallaria flying site). Roads up: one directly from Rueglio, one from the Valchiusella side (asphalted, north side of the mountain). Both meet the gravel road; after a few hundred metres a barrier normally blocks further driving — the local forest ranger holds the permit. On foot from the barrier, the first takeoffs are 20 min, the top field 50 min. Landings: no official LZ in Rueglio, but many local fields are big and suitable. Avoid landing in long grass, cultivated fields or on livestock. Cavallaria (7 km) and S. Elisabetta are within short-XC glide.

Local rules & hazards

Do NOT fly in föhn or strong N/W wind. Slight northerlies are still workable at altitude thanks to the valley breeze at flight height. Thunderstorms can build very quickly over the nearby mountains — sometimes hidden behind other cumulus clouds.
