Where it is
Toirano sits on the Ligurian coast, a wide, easy-to-drive-to take-off reached via the A10 motorway's Borghetto exit, then following signs toward Toirano and Balestrino — a right turn onto Via Groa about 200 m before Balestrino leads straight to launch. North wind should be avoided altogether here. The site's traditional landing field has been off-limits since 2022, now closed and holding animals, so pilots need a plan B: either an easy top landing back at launch when the wind is light, or climbing at least 200 m above take-off to cross into the neighboring valley and reach a soccer field above Boissano village, accessible even through a locked gate via a gap in the fence — just don't land there mid-match.
Launch & conditions
A wide, easy take-off reached directly by car.
Getting there & local rules
From the A10 motorway, take the Borghetto exit and follow signs toward Toirano and Balestrino; about 200 m before Balestrino, turn right onto Via Groa, which leads straight to launch.
Local rules & hazards
Avoid flying with a north wind. The original landing field has been closed since 2022 (it now has animals in it), so plan on either an easy top landing at launch if the wind is light, or climbing at least 200 m above take-off to cross into the next valley and land at a soccer field near Boissano instead — don't land there if a match is in progress.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Toirano, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Toirano with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
