Teta Azul de la Misión

Teta Azul de la Misión is a Baja California Sur coastal launch 10 minutes past Playa Santispac, about 75 minutes north of Loreto just east of Highway 1. Launch is on an east-facing slope, so thermal flying tapers off in mid-afternoon but ridge soaring continues. Guy wires north and south of launch don't obstruct takeoff, and a couple of wings can comfortably fly between them on a soaring day. Prevailing wind is easterly.

Launch & conditions

Launch is 25 ft north of the gate to the antenna, just below the road. Prevailing east wind creates a slight side-hill launch; when the wind clocks to north, lay out at the edge of the road for a clean level takeoff towards the LZ. Guy wires N and S of launch don't obstruct.

Getting there & local rules

10 minutes past Playa Santispac, via a well-marked 2WD gravel road on the right. About 75 minutes north of Loreto, just east of Highway 1 (26.848789, -111.903176). Landing: gravel road 2–3 minutes past the antenna turnoff (2WD-accessible) gets you within 200 ft of the beach. The parking area is the best LZ, plenty of room for both. You can also land on the beach near the parking area or closer to the antenna — crosswind final with a short turn into the wind right before touchdown.
