Where it is
Gomide is a soaring and thermal site in northern Portugal, known for a wide, easy, clean takeoff that's earned it a reputation as a forgiving mountain to fly. The climb from the village below to launch covers about 440m of vertical, and the access road is already in good shape, with paving works underway to make it even better. Landing is generous too: the official field sits right alongside the road up to takeoff, broad enough to give a comfortable margin, and there are several other decent-sized fields along the same route if you need an alternative — the only thing to watch for is straying into cultivated land instead of open pasture.
Launch & conditions
Takeoff is large, easy and clean, about 440m of ascent above the village below.
Getting there & local rules
Access is by road, already in good condition and being paved further. The official landing is a broad field right alongside the road up to takeoff, with olive trees along one side; several other decent-sized fields line the same route in case you need an alternative — just watch for cultivated ground.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Gomide, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Gomide with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
