Where it is
Kings Forest Park (also known as 'The Nest') in Hamilton, Ontario has been officially closed to flying by the City of Hamilton, so this page exists for reference only - do not plan a flight here. Historically, the launch was a 30-degree, grass-and-shrub-covered meadow at about 161 m, sitting above the King's Forest Golf Club near the intersection of Mohawk Road East and Mountain Brow Boulevard, at the eastern end of Lake Ontario. It took wind from north through north-east to east. The site was known for cluttered, growing tree cover that made easy soaring increasingly rare even before the closure, though the varied conditions were good for sharpening skills across levels when it was open. A small international airport sits about 3 km away, so anyone in the area needs to stay aware of flight paths and height restrictions. Historical landing options included a side landing near the top after soaring, a top landing, or a shrubby meadow to the left at the bottom; the golf course itself was never an option when open, tolerated only in winter.
