Grindelwald – First

Grindelwald–First is an easy, gondola-served launch in the Bernese Oberland — a huge takeoff area suited to all levels, with the added drama of soaring the north face of the Eiger on afternoon summer days. Access is straightforward: gondola from Grindelwald, then a 5-minute downhill walk. Top-landing is possible. Views are on the 'unforgettable' end of the Alpine spectrum.

Getting there & local rules

By car or train from Bern → Interlaken → Grindelwald, then gondola to First. Landings: two LZs available — 'Bodmi' and 'Grund'. Gondola tickets: 50% off with the Swiss Half-Fare Card; day passes (worth it if you plan to fly more than twice) and 2-day passes are also sold.

Local rules & hazards

Föhn! Takeoff and a large part of the flying area lie inside LS-R6 (Axalp) — check its activation status via the DABS before flying. Swiss airspace is complex — get all the info you can before flying. If flying to Interlaken or landing at the aerodrome, observe the special overflight and approach regulations.
