Where it is

Hinterrugg is a mountain launch in the Toggenburg region of eastern Switzerland at about 2,183 m, reached by gondola from Unterwasser and flyable across a wide range of directions — north, southeast, south, southwest and northwest. The launch sits underneath the LS-R43 restricted airspace zone, so checking the current airspace situation before flying matters more here than at many hills. Foehn wind is also flagged as a real weather hazard. Landing is straightforward to find: right beside the Iltios cable railway, close to the valley station. A well-connected mountain launch with genuinely flexible wind options, but one where the restricted airspace overhead is worth confirming before you commit to a flight.

Check conditions before you fly

A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Hinterrugg, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Hinterrugg with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
