Alto Hospicio

Alto Hospicio is a coastal soaring site above Iquique, Chile, launching at about 542 m in southwest, west or northwest wind. Takeoff is spacious — large enough for at least ten wings at once — with part of the launch area covered in artificial turf and the rest sandy underfoot. It can get crowded on weekends, so a weekday session tends to be a quieter experience. Landing options are down at the beaches below: Playa Huayquique is the closest, with Playa Brava and Playa Cavancha as alternatives, though Cavancha in particular is often very crowded. Whichever beach you're aiming for, check the tide beforehand, since the landing conditions change with it. Between the roomy launch and multiple beach landing choices, Alto Hospicio is a sociable, flexible coastal site — just plan around the crowds and the tide.
