Where it is
Parapente Esmeralda is a thermal, soaring and hike-and-fly site in Colombia, launching at about 2,123 m in northeast, east or southeast wind, with excellent views over a nearby reservoir dam. Access is on foot only — there's no vehicle route to launch — and the takeoff itself is a small, steep space rated moderate level, so it takes reasonable fitness for the hike and a comfortable inflation technique for the tight launch. On the way in to land, watch for power cables in the approach area; give yourself enough margin to spot and clear them well before touching down. Between the hike-in access, the compact launch and the dam views, this is a rewarding but attentive site — one to fly with the cables and the moderate technical demand front of mind.
