Where it is
San Félix (gtopik) is a well-regarded thermal and cross-country site above Medellín, Colombia, with three separate launch options around 2,411 m. Conditions are usually excellent for both local flying and cross-country, with cloud base typically forming around 3,300 m. Both landings are considered comfortable: a top-landing option near launch, and a bottom landing at El Trapiche, in Bello, roughly 1,450 m lower. Wind here runs from northeast through southeast, and pilots need to watch airspace limits to the east because of nearby air traffic. Conditions can also turn: strong wind can build with little warning, so keep an eye on the sky rather than trusting a calm forecast. The bottom landing at El Trapiche should be avoided once it starts getting dark — it isn't a safe place to be after dusk. Getting up requires a short bus ride from Medellín's northern terminal toward San Pedro de los Milagros; ask locally for the San Félix stop.
Launch & conditions
Three separate launch points operate at San Félix, all working the northeast-to-southeast wind. Cloud base typically sits around 3,300 m on a good day, and both the top-landing and bottom-landing options are considered comfortable.
Getting there & local rules
Take a bus from Medellín's Terminal Norte toward San Pedro de los Milagros and get off at San Félix. Bottom landing is at El Trapiche, in Bello, about 1,450 m below launch.
Local rules & hazards
Air traffic means pilots need to stay within certain limits to the east of the site. Strong wind can build quickly with little warning, so don't rely on a calm start to the day — and avoid the El Trapiche bottom landing once it starts getting dark, as it isn't a safe place to be after dusk.
