Where it is
Lilienthal – Hügel is a small practice hill near the center of Dresden, Germany, at around 116 m, catchable in wind from north, northeast, west or northwest. Its name nods to Otto Lilienthal, the 19th-century German aviation pioneer whose glider flights near Berlin laid the groundwork for powered flight — a fitting namesake for a hill used today for groundhandling rather than serious airtime. This is a low-key city-edge spot: pilots come here to work their wing on the ground and take short, controlled hops rather than climb out or go cross-country, and the site is explicitly capped at 20 m above the ground, so it functions as a kite-and-hop practice slope, not a launch for real flights. With four workable wind directions, it's flyable more often than most single-aspect hills, which is exactly what makes it useful for regular groundhandling practice close to a major city rather than a weekend-only mountain trip.
Local rules & hazards
Flights here are limited to a maximum of 20 m above the ground — it's set up for groundhandling and short hops, not full flights.
