Son Bou

Son Bou is a genuinely striking coastal ridge on Menorca, Spain, facing west with about 80 m of height and 900 m of length running along the sea — a proper soaring line rather than a short stretch of dune. Light westerly wind is what makes it work, giving smooth, sustained lift right over the water. Pilots can either top-land back at the ridge or come down on the beach below, and the site doubles as a solid place to practice maneuvers up to about 200 m above sea level before heading back to the ridge to climb out and go again. Most pilots end up top-landing rather than heading down to the sand, since the ridge itself provides such reliable, extended lift that there's rarely a need to come all the way down. With its length and consistency, this is one of the better soaring lines on the island for a light-wind day over the sea.
