Tenerife – Taucho

Taucho on Tenerife's south-west coast is one of the most-flown sites on the island — good car access, parking near takeoff, a very large launch surface (no grass, so carpets are laid out). Because Taucho sits on the lee side of Tenerife, the best flying happens when the main wind hits the island from the NE (about 80% of the year) — that gives SW lee-side winds at launch and landing, plus reliable thermal conditions and the possibility of long thermal runs down the 25 km SW side of the island.

Getting there & local rules

The road to takeoff leaves from Adeje, close to LIDL. Landings: at Playa de la Enramada — several options between the highway/Tropicana and the beach, but available landing spots change year to year due to construction. Landing on the sand beach in Costa Adeje (N28.092 W16.745) is strictly prohibited and enforced by local police. Landing on the rocky black beach westwards (N28.0924 W16.7466) or on 'pirate beach' (N28.0976 W16.7515) is tolerated but probably not legal either.

Local rules & hazards

Do not fly if local pilots are on the ground — a sign to check the conditions. Watch for hard left or right wind on takeoff. Land quickly if you see white waves on the sea. Best on NE meteo wind (~80% of the year — creates SW lee-side flying and long thermal runs down the SW coast).
