Where it is
Volmerange-les-Mines launches at 411 m near the France–Luxembourg–Germany border, with two takeoffs facing east and southeast. Winds from the northeast through east to southeast work the ridge, and the site sits over gently rolling, semi-flatland terrain that opens up realistic cross-country lines to the west — pilots need enough height on climb-out to reach safe landing options at least 4 km beyond the village. Ground handling and top-landing back at launch are both possible, but the field directly behind takeoff is strictly off-limits for landing. The main landing zone is a field just below the ridge; staying well clear of the houses nearby, and of the field behind the start, is part of local etiquette as much as the rules. The site's wind window is narrow enough that checking conditions carefully before committing to a line is standard practice here, and the short walk in through a small forest is best taken slowly given the terrain underfoot.
Launch & conditions
Two takeoffs, facing east and southeast; top-landing at launch is possible, but not in the field directly behind it.
Getting there & local rules
From the village, pass the first roundabout, take the first right, then right again and immediately left onto the track leading through a small forest to launch — best walked slowly.
Local rules & hazards
Locally, wind above roughly 30 km/h measured at nearby Luxembourg Airport — or anywhere in the 15–45 km/h band at the site — is considered dangerous. Venturi effects are known just north and south of takeoff, and landing in the field directly behind launch is forbidden, especially in strong wind.
