Gringlay

Gringlay is a Luxembourg cliff site in the Sûre valley, near Lipperscheid — a small W/SW-facing launch at 440 m elevation with strict club rules that every visiting pilot must observe. The site is club-managed and access is conditional: valid rating, third-party liability insurance, wing with current inspection, reserve parachute, harness with airbag or equivalent protection, and a mandatory briefing with an active club member before your first flight. Maximum flight altitude is 2,500 ft MSL (762 m). Because of the size of the slope and to avoid collisions, only 5 pilots can share the airspace at the same time.

Launch & conditions

West/south-west orientation. Elevation 440 m. Coordinates 49°54.947'N 6°5.510'E. No cars allowed at takeoff.

Getting there & local rules

N7 road, exit Lipperscheid. Park at the Hôtel Leweck. From parking, head south, follow signs for Gringlay; after the last house, turn right onto an unpaved road, ~500 m — done. From landing to launch: cross the bridge, take the stairs, walk uphill ~500 m (about 20 min). Landing at 49°54.529'N 6°5.135'E, elevation 229 m — arrange with the Um Gritt campsite. Emergency landing at the raised meadow across from the Vieux Moulin hotel (49°54.758'N 6°5.259'E). Do NOT land on the right side of the bridge, and NOT at the point of takeoff.

Local rules & hazards

Each pilot must: hold a valid rating, hold valid third-party liability insurance, use a wing with a current inspection certificate, carry a reserve parachute, use a harness with an airbag or equivalent protection, and get briefed on site characteristics and hazards by an active club member before the first flight. Register in the report book at the campsite reception. Max altitude 2,500 ft MSL (762 m). A landing scout is mandatory before each flight — check wind and use the socks. Priority rules: pilot with the cliff on their line has right of way; club members and 'chart host' holders have priority at takeoff. Only 5 pilots may share the airspace at the same time. Strong W winds bring turbulence — take care.
