Where it is
Zanzroli sits along a long ridge — over 15km of it — running WNW-facing above a village of the same name near the Arabian Sea coast in India, with height varying from about 300 to 1,500 feet along its length. Much of the ridge is forested, but there are several open spots between 500 and 900 feet that work for both takeoff and top-landing, plus barren cliff sections that generate reliable lift. Getting to any of the three takeoff spots means trekking up through forest on trails that aren't always easy to follow, so a local guide is worth having the first time. The launches themselves are spacious and safe, but this is a site for pilots with real airtime behind them — reckoning with weak-wind days and a landing that sometimes demands sharp maneuvering with good speed calls for meaningfully more than beginner experience. Before flying, let the local police know your intentions — it's the one formal requirement here.
Launch & conditions
There are three takeoff spots, reached by trekking up through forest on trails that aren't always clear — a local guide helps the first time. The takeoffs themselves are big and safe, but this site suits pilots with solid airtime rather than newcomers.
Getting there & local rules
The site is about 2km from Kelve Road railway station, with a motorable road running to the base of the landing zone at Zanzroli village, which has a dam of the same name. Landing depends on your flight: top-to-bottom flights land in small zones that call for sharp glider control at good speed, while soaring flights have several landing options to choose from.
Local rules & hazards
There's no formal flight regulation here yet, but let the local police know you intend to fly in the area before you go. Weak-wind days are genuinely challenging for inexperienced pilots, especially on landing, so this is a site better suited to those with real experience.
Check conditions before you fly
A forecast for the valley is not a forecast for the launch. Before heading to Zanzroli, read the wind and thermals for the site itself, confirm the day's rules with the local club, and remember the standing rule — when in doubt, don't launch. In the free OutDare app you can open Zanzroli with a 7-day forecast built from high-resolution weather models, see who else has been flying, and get there with offline maps.
