Kronplatz

Kronplatz (Plan de Corones) is a well-known South Tyrol launch at about 2,275 m, popular enough that local pilots fly it often on north-facing days and rate the conditions well. The mountain offers a genuinely wide wind window — north, north-east, south-east, south, west and north-west all work here, which is unusual generosity for an Alpine site and means Kronplatz is rarely fully out of play. Thermal, soaring, cross-country and hike-and-fly flying are all viable depending on the day. Getting up doesn't require a hike: a cable car runs to the top for around 16 EUR a ride, or a 10-ride pass for about 120 EUR if you're planning a longer stay — though it's worth checking the lift is actually running before you commit to the trip, since it doesn't operate on every schedule. Landing is refreshingly convenient too: the field sits just a few meters from the parking area and the gondola's base station, so there's no long walk back to the car after a flight.
